The Dobell family were leaving their small country town, called Elmore, for a Hawaiian holiday. On the way to the airport, while Anne was navigating and Lan was driving, their five year old son, Ben, was screaming, “Are we there yet?” He was swinging his favourite teddy bear out of the window when they drove over a bump and he accidentally let go. Unfortunately, they couldn’t turn back on the busy freeway. Ben cried loudly all the way to the airport, in the departure lounge and on the plane. Luckily, the flight attendant gave him another teddy which calmed him down.
