Prompt: Red

As I looked towards the front of the school I saw a bright red poppy sitting there on the floor. It didn’t move in the wind, but it didn’t stay completely still either.

Someone had yelled something across the playground so i looked over, but nobody was there. The voice came again, “Get down!!” but still nobody was there.

I went back to the poppy and it was gone. I moved my eyes back towards the voice and I saw a man in a uniform with a rifle in his hand. I jumped down behind a sandbag and there I was, in the middle of a battlefield.

I like the bit were you compared it to the poppies to show your respect to the people who died for us.
You could add more specific words and more adjectives to describe the story .
I also like the bit were you described the poppy how red it was.

Michelle, when I read what the prompt was, I too thought about the Anzac poppy. Don’t you love the way that writing can take you to any situation you might desire via your imagination.
The innocent start to this piece which then led quietly into the battlefield scene was very effective.
