Swimming against the current, the water chills my body. The air is a haze of black ash that is falling from the sky in great clouds. Flowers, once purple and hairy, are now covered in black dust. Arising from the water, I hear the booms and cracks erupting from the angry volcano.
I look around the surrounding darkening forest, banana trees and homes now dust. With each step, ground sinks further beneath my feet. I follow the river that heads towards the ocean. The tree-line thins, revealing a sight most welcome; a small raft laying on the beach. My salvation!
